Richard David Norris, 83, of Yarmouthport MA, passed away on June 24, 2024, after battling Parkinson’s Disease.

Richard, who went by his middle name “Dave”, was born to Joseph and Doris in Warrington, Lancashire, United Kingdom, where he attended primary and secondary school, and then went on to study at Liverpool College.

After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he joined the British Merchant Navy from 1960-1969 as a 2nd Engineer, where he traveled to many countries throughout Africa and the Middle East. After leaving the Merchant Navy, he worked as an Apprentice Training Supervisor for Massey Ferguson.

In January of 1969, his Merchant Navy ship was docked in Boston Harbor. At a party on the ship Dave met his future wife, Marcia Bertini. In May of 1969 they were married at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston, and went on to have two sons, Joseph and Matthew.

After moving from Manchester, United Kingdom to Boston, MA in 1971, Dave went on to work at Kemper Insurance as a nuclear power plant inspector. He was accepted to the “American Society of Mechanical Engineers” in 1979. In 1987, Dave left his job at Kemper Insurance and moved to Yarmouthport with his family and bought and ran Daggett’s Liquors in South Yarmouth for 10 years.

Dave will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his sense of humor and his generosity. In his younger years he was an avid runner and biker and played soccer into his 40’s. He loved to travel with his wife Marcia, but mostly loved the home life they made together. After retirement, he enjoyed drawing, painting, and gardening, but most of all he loved grilling his famous “Davey Burgers” for his family.

Dave was survived by his life-long love and best friend of 55 years, Marcia Norris, and beloved sons Joseph and Matthew Norris, daughter-in-law Carolyn, and granddaughter Zara. Dave was predeceased by his brother John and sister Hazel, and is survived by his brothers, Roy and Keith, and sister Gill.

He will have a small, private service with family at his favorite spot overlooking the salt marshes behind his home in Yarmouthport. In lieu of a formal service and flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
