Kim Greene
May 17th, 2024
Kim Elisabeth Greene passed away instantly at her home on May 17, 2024.
Born in White Plains, NY, Kim was the first child of Jeffrey Greene and Dorothy Greene (Quimby). At the end of her first day of kindergarten, she was found crying not because she missed her Mom but because she said, “I didn’t learn anything!” The following year she skipped first grade as her teachers realized she was exceptional. She was a champion backstroker at the Larchmont Shore Club and was a stage manager at summer stock theaters in Lake Placid NY, Montclair NJ and Grand Lake CO. She graduated from Mamaroneck High School, class of 1969, and went to the University of Denver as a theater major with her pet monkey Jackson. Kim transferred and became a member of the first class of women to graduate from Colgate University in 1974. Her honors included Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. She met her first husband Francis Sheehan, and they were married in 1977. Kim earned her JD from Georgetown Law in 1979. After law school she went to work for the National Organization for Women Legal Defense and Education Fund in NYC. Ironically when she had her first and only child Francis in 1982, she was informed she needed to return to a five-six day work week, six weeks after giving birth or she would be fired. “And I was. So much for sisterhood.” Kim went on to become an Assistant Attorney General in New York, Executive Director of Governor Mario Cuomo’s Task Force on Sexual Harassment, Deputy Counsel to the NYS Department of Labor, and a short stint as an Assistant Attorney General for Federated States of Micronesia. Kim met Alan Zox, the love of her life in 1991 and they were married in 2004. They lived together in Delmar, NY and on Prudence Island, RI for many years. She was always an advocate for women and equality in the workplace and in life. She rallied friends and family to the Women’s March in Washington D.C. in 2017. She ended her career as Chief Healthcare Compliance Officer at Boston Medical Center, happily retiring in 2018 in West Dennis, MA on the Cape, close to family. In retirement Kim and Alan spent time traveling to warm locales in the winter, including multiple long trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas.
As a mother, Kim felt it was most important to teach her son these three skills: 1. How to Read 2. How to Swim and 3. How to Travel. She was a kind and generous person. On many Christmases, at the local Kmart she would anonymously pay off people’s layaways so they could enjoy their own Christmas miracles. The ultimate conversationalist, Kim lived life to the fullest and would be the first to tell you that she knew how lucky she was and how grateful she was for every minute of it. She most enjoyed being with her husband Alan, swimming and relaxing on a beautiful beach, reading, chatting with family and friends, listening to the Beatles, great food, a cold cocktail and the occasional joint.
She is survived by her husband, Alan Zox, mother the Rev. Dorothy Greene, brother John Greene, sister the Rev. Hilary Greene (wife Dorothy Green) son and daughter-in-law Francis Sheehan and Valerie Acquaviva, three stepsons and three grandchildren, along with many, many friends.
Services will be private.

Kim and I met in our ninth grade year at Mamaroneck high school and were very good friends during school hours . Our main objective was to laugh and hail life. After graduation from MHS we met again at the 40 yr school celebration and were ecstatic to see each other again and tell our stories! What different lives and worlds we came from! Very sorry Kim has gone and with much love I congratulate Alan for such a beautiful partner and send my condolences to you and all her lovely family.
To Alan and the Greene family, We are so sorry for your loss, knowing how important Kim was to all of you, especially for Alan whom she cared for so generously and fondly. We remember her contributions to many good causes, especially to women’s rights and her hearty enjoyment of life lived to the fullest. We feel fortunate to have had the pleasure of multiple lively and fun visits with Alan and Kim at their home in Dennis on the Cape. We send our sympathy and kind wishes to Kim’s family and our love to Alan at this moment of great loss Susan and Hedrick

She sounded like a wonderful woman and accomplished. I am sure she will be missed and forever in your heart. Sympathy for everyone in your family .
My dearest and oldest friend will be missed terribly. We always pictured ourselves as old ladies, laughing and reminiscing together. Kim always had something smart and snappy to say, and had an amazing career. She was brilliant and truly funny. Hopefully, we will meet again.
What a wonderful tribute, full of character and life and humor - just like Kim herself. She achieved so much and left so many friends. I find Myself wanting to have one, last conversation with her and ask, “what’s your take on all this, Kim? Isn’t it crazy that you’re not here? Didn’t we still have a ton of things left to talk about??” As you said, as a conversationalist, she had few peers. I miss her so much.
A beautiful tribute. It captures the essence of Kim perfectly.
Hi there - I was one of Kim’s many best friends. How I’d like to call her and be informed. She was very smart and I really enjoyed our conversations. My husband calls her a warrior. She was ethical about everything. Her love for Alan was so true and weathered a storm. She was a stoic - always doing th we right thing quietly and with resolve. Again and again I’d like to call her. I knew her like pretty well and I’m one of many who loved her.
