Gilbert E. MacKinnon, 88, of Orleans, MA, passed away on May 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and a family friend.

Gil was born in Boston, MA to the late D. Douglas and Mary G. (Campbell) MacKinnon. He was a proud double eagle, having graduated from both Boston College High School and Boston College. Fulfilling his passion for cars, Gil owned MacKinnon Motor Service in Newton, MA before moving to Orleans in 1978.

Gil enjoyed Boston sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, fishing, and telling stories about his adventures traveling across the U.S. over a 20-year span with Joanne and their dog, Pepé.

Gil is survived by his beloved wife Joanne, daughter Cynthia and husband Tim Crossman, grandchildren Hunter and Anna of Cummaquid MA, stepchildren Steve Cochrane, Al Cochrane, David Cochrane, and Barbara Duffey. He was preceded in death by his sister Theresa Sutherland.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on May 20, 2024, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 61 Canal Rd, Orleans. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gil’s honor to the American Heart Association.
