William (Bill) Henry Chapman Jr., 74, of South Yarmouth, MA, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on April 29, 2024.

Born and raised in Boston, Bill was the eldest son of the late William and Marion (Marcus) Chapman. He graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1968.

Bill's work life began with a strong foundation, as an apprentice to a plumber – a skill that proved valuable throughout his years. In the early 1970s, he embarked on a successful 47-year career at Sturtevant, Inc. Starting as a service technician, his dedication led him to rise through the ranks, eventually becoming Laboratory and Service Manager. This role allowed him to travel extensively, not just across North America, but also to many places overseas, including South America, Europe, and the Middle East.

It was during his time as an apprentice plumber that fate intervened. Bill, along with his friends and co-workers, frequented Hungry Louie's restaurant, owned by Debra Gareau's parents. There, amidst the friendly atmosphere, he had first met Debra Gareau, who would later become his wife. They married in 1978 and together raised three amazing children: Stacey (Chapman) Little, Marcus Chapman, and Natalie Chapman. Bill was a devoted husband and father, cherishing time spent with his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Liam Little, Grace Little, Lucy Custer, and Caleb Custer.

Few things brought him more satisfaction than tackling a home improvement project. He thrived on fixing things and making his home a place of comfort for his family. A die-hard New England Patriots fan, Sundays were sacred for Bill. Those who dared to interrupt the game did so at their own peril, and the house would often reverberate with his enthusiastic cheers (or groans, depending on the score). In his younger days, Bill embraced the open road on his motorcycle, a passion he reignited later in life. He loved creating lasting memories with his family, whether it was on camping trips, thrilling amusement park rides, or exploring local fairs. Country music always held a special place in his heart, providing the perfect soundtrack for these adventures.

Bill was loved by his family and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Debra Chapman; his children, Stacey (Chapman) Little and her ex-husband James Little, Marcus Chapman, and Natalie Chapman and her husband Shawn Custer; his grandchildren; and his siblings, Maureen Chapman Fahey (and husband William Fahey), Gail Hart (and husband Bill Hart, Sr.), David Chapman (and wife Christine Chapman), Paul Chapman (and wife Linda Chapman), and Mark Chapman (and wife Janice Chapman). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Marion Chapman, and his sister, Patricia (Chapman) Curtis.

Visiting hours will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by the Funeral Service from 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA 02664. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America Alzheimers Foundation of America or the Alzheimer's Association Alzheimer's Association.
