Arthur N. King, a resident of Heatherwood in Yarmouth Port passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA, on Saturday, April 27th just days before his 102nd birthday.

Known for his passionate love of nature and birding, Art was born May 1, 1922, in Unionville, CT. After graduating Unionville High School, he enlisted in the army in 1942 and saw time in Japan and the far-Pacific. Following his time in the service, he completed his studies at Cornell University and began his career as a biology teacher and Upper School administrator for Hackley School, a private boarding school located in Tarrytown, NY.

When a fellow teacher invited him to Cape Cod to go birding back in the 1950s, he fell in love with the region and retired to the Cape in 1983 after thirty-five years at Hackley School.

Art was loved by his children and step-grandchildren, former students, the birding community on Cape Cod and the residents of Heatherwood.
He is survived by his two children, Christopher King and his wife Nancy of Brewster, NY, John King of Holbrook, MA, and his stepson Stan Sussina and his wife Carolyn of Walden, NY. He was pre-deceased by wives Patricia and Josephine and his daughter, Pamela Williams.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 1:30pm at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.  The interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Eastham, Mass.

Arthur was an incredible loving and kind man. He was married to my aunt Josephine for many years. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he ever touched. He has taught us so many different things about so many different subjects.

Art was a stalwart member of the Cape Cod Bird Club. In 2001, he was awarded the CCBC's highest honor, an award named after Ludlow Griscom, for service to the Club. He was a close friend and birding buddy. I'll miss his kind and gentle humor and his companionship. Peter Bono, Past President, Cape Cod Bird Club
