Nancy E Moyer
Apr 3rd, 2024
Nancy Moyer, 68, of West Yarmouth.
Nancy peacefully shuffled off this mortal coil on April 3, surrounded by loving family and friends as well as her "fur babies".
Don't you dare say she "lost her battle to cancer," nothing could be further from the truth.
Nancy was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 1, 1955, to the late Ralph and Angela Moyer. Nancy enjoyed an idyllic childhood on the shores of Lake Superior. “Boy is that water cold.” Her family eventually moved to the Cape, an even larger waterscape. Her summers were spent on Nauset Beach, with baby oil and a transistor radio in hand.
After graduating from the College of the Atlantic Nancy returned to Cape Cod. She worked for Cape Cod Collaborative as a teacher and interpreter in a classroom for hearing impaired children. Looking for a change, she took an EMT class and became a "call girl" for the Orleans Fire Department. Nancy was mentored by fellow "call girls" Paula Cullem and Jennifer Smith. She then decided to take the plunge and went to paramedic school, where she earned her paramedic license with the help of Margot Fitch from Brewster Fire. In 1985 she received her paramedic license and held it until her retirement in 2022. Nancy was a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Dennis Fire Department for thirty-four and a half years. Some of her fondest memories of the firehouse were the fire safety courses she taught to different generations. She will forever be remembered as the voice behind Freddy the Fire Engine.
In her spare time Nancy enjoyed knitting as well as singing with the Chatham Chorale, the Cape Cod Chorale and St David’s Choir. As an avid baker, Nancy found her retirement dream job working at Englewood Bakery.
Conor and Molly Robertson were the pride and joy of Nancy’s life. Nancy’s presence was always felt as she attended countless academic, sporting events and marching band competitions.
Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul. She also leaves a sister, Karen, In-Laws Jack, Ellen and Sally, nephews Ian and Billy, nieces Kaitlyn, Karyn and Rachel.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 from 10-12 at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. South Yarmouth. Followed by a celebration of her life at Saint David’s Episcopal Church, 205 Old Main St. So. Yarmouth, MA.at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dennis Firefighter’s Association in Nancy’s honor.
