Robert Michael Cleary, 81, of  West Yarmouth, MA, passed away on January 25, 2024. He was born on March 13, 1942, in Melrose, MA, to the late Joseph Francis Cleary and Kathleen (Kehoe) Cleary. Bob is survived by his daughter Tiffany Cleary De Moudt and son-in-law Paul De Moudt of Houston, TX, his son Michael (Cleary) and daughter-in-law Erica Cleary of Foxboro, his four grandchildren Dominik and Alexandra De Moudt, and Isabella and Sophia Cleary and his former wife, Barbara Cleary. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen Cleary and his beloved yellow lab, Coleman Monroe.
 
Bob was known for his practical jokes, infectious laugh and his candor. He had a unique perspective on life and loved telling stories about his wild days at Sigma Chi Fraternity and the time he had drinks with Elvis in his trailer. Bob could be easily spotted with his trademark visor and cigar in hand. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed golfing at various courses on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed early morning coffee and donuts with friends and meticulously manicuring his yard.
 
After graduating from Arizona State University in 1967, Bob proudly served his country until 1969. He was stationed in Vietnam as an Army Infantry Specialist where he earned two Purple Hearts. 
 
Bob had a successful career as a remodeling contractor and was well-respected in his field. His attention to detail and dedication to his craft made him a sought-after professional.
 
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on January 31, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne, MA. will follow at 1:45 p.m.
 
Bob Cleary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
 

Bob Cleary and I have been friends since we first met at Fort Dix, NJ, in 1968 and subsequently served together in Viet Nam. Later, we reconnected on Cape Cod after my family purchased a summer home in Chatham. For the subsequent 30+ years, we always met at Larry's PX for breakfast at least once every summer. Because my wife and I were in Chatham for Christmas 2023, Bob and I had breakfast at Larry's PX just 2 weeks ago. Bob liked to tell jokes, and he liked to make observations about national and local events. He loved his family dearly and always updated me on Michael and Tiffany, their children, and their dogs. We were friends for 55 years. I will miss our get togethers at Larry's PX. And I will miss my conversations and discussions with such a good friend. My sympathy goes out to Bob's entire family on this sad occasion. Ron Manderscheid
