Janet Ruth Hynes (Waller), 96, of South Yarmouth, MA, passed away on September 11, 2023 peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Janet was born in Newark, NJ on August 3, 1927 to Ashley and Marguerite Waller. Janet grew up in Bloomfield, NJ and then went on to graduate from Chestnut Hill College in PA in 1949.
After graduating college Janet went to work at the Schering Corporation in the Pharmaceutical library, and in 1952 she went on a blind date with a young man named Francis Hynes with whom she instantly fell in love. On July 17, 1954, she married Francis Hynes, whom she remained married to for 68 years.
After they got married they moved to New Providence, NJ, then Berkeley Heights, NJ where they went on to raise their 3 children together. In 1996 Francis and Janet moved permanently to Chatham, MA where they had a beautiful home together. In 2013 they sold their home and moved to Thirwood place in S. Yarmouth. Janet’s favorite thing was spending time with her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as all of her many friends. Janet loved lighthouses and collected model lighthouses from everywhere that she and Francis traveled together to see. In her spare time, she also volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital for many years.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Dr. Francis Hynes and leaves behind their children, Kathleen and Larry Lifland of Jupiter, FL, Patricia Hynes-Morris and Neal Morris of S. Yarmouth, MA, and Thomas Hynes of Chatham, MA. She also is survived by her loving grandchildren, Jane and William Field, Jennifer Lifland and TJ LaBaugh, Rebecca Morris, Alton Morris, and Margaret Lifland, as well as great-grandchildren Erin and Samuel.
A visitation will be held at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. South Yarmouth on Wednesday September 20, 2023 from 6-8pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave South Yarmouth, MA 02664 on Thursday September 21st at 11am. Burial to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
