Joan Elizabeth (Dempsey) Janes, 90, of West Yarmouth, MA passed away on August 16, 2023 at Cape Cod Hospital. Joan is survived by her only daughter Linda A. Gagnon and her partner Shawn M. Dansereau of West Wareham, MA. Joan is also survived by her sisters Anne D. Cullinane of West Yarmouth and Brookline, MA and Doris C. Claflin of Lynnfield, MA.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
 
 Joan was originally from the North Shore of Boston. Joan was the daughter of Jack and Anne (Currie) Dempsey of Wakefield, MA and later West Yarmouth, MA. She was a graduate of Wakefield High School.  Joan was an administrative office manager for MetLife in Hyannis for many years.  In addition to her professional life she volunteered as a literacy educator at the West Yarmouth Library.  She loved a good book, travel, and watching Boston sports.
 
 A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 23 at Sacred Heart Chapel, Summer St., Yarmouth Port, MA at 11am. A private graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests loved ones to donate to the American Heart Association or Mass. Literacy on Joan’s behalf.  From Joan’s favorite poet Robert Frost “A good book has no ending” and so may her love and spirit live on for all of those who love and miss her dearly.

Joan and I worked together at MetLife for many years and she was the ultimate professional. Her knowledge of the systems, her rapport with the customers, and her easygoing demeanor allowed her to connect with everyone. I offer my condolences to Linda.
