William G. Gell

Jul 26th, 2023

Willam George Gell, 70 years of age, passed away at his home in Brewster, MA on July 26, 2023, after suffering for many years with a worsening lung condition. Will was born to Jean and Jack Gell, in Salem, OR but the majority of his childhood was spent in Corvallis, OR. After Willy graduated from Corvallis High School in 1971, he went on to study engineering at both Oregon State University (OSU) and later Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT).

While attending Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, OR. Will met and married Nancy Morris in 1984 and graduated with a B.S. In Manufacturing Engineering Technology as well as associate degrees in Welding Technology and Machining Technology, in the same year. The two moved east and have resided on the east coast since graduating from OIT, most recently in Brewster, MA.

Will landed his first job out of college at the Franklin Institute of Boston, a technical college where he was an assistant professor of mechanical engineering. He went on to teach evening Computer Aided Design (CAD) classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and eventually left his teaching position for a position as an engineer with the Foxboro Company in 1987. Will remained with the company throughout its many mergers and acquisitions and retired from Schneider Electric Company in January 2020.

Will’s great passion in life was for music and he was an accomplished guitar and bass player. He enjoyed restoring and making all types of electric guitars and playing in various bands throughout the years that performed in Southeastern, MA. He had a great sense of humor and was a kind and gentle soul. Most recently, he knew his health was failing and he was able to reconnect with many of his friends that he had not seen since leaving the west coast in 1984.

Will was predeceased by his mother Jean, father Jack and brother James. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Morris, brothers Bob and Greg, Uncle Tom, Aunt Melissa and numerous cousins; brother and sister-in-law Neal and Patty, and their children Alton, Becky and Jane.

A celebration of his life will be held in the fall. Announcements will be sent to all friends and family once plans are finalized.
