Sandra R. Blackman

Sandra R. Blackman, 83, of West Yarmouth, MA passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023. She joins Edward B. Blackman her beloved husband of 44 years; parents Arlene (née Miller) and Raymond Lynch; and stepson Mark Blackman. Sandra was a keen observer of the world around her however she knew that observing was not sufficient. She was a tireless active advocate for equity and justice. She strove to make a difference and bring positive change in every circumstance she came upon. In 1977, Sandra established her own company, Independent Managers Incorporated (IMI) and served as President & CEO until 1999. She and her partner Alexa Dailey specialized in the management of economically and racially diverse, mixed-income housing developments, market properties, and publicly owned housing primarily in the inner-city communities of Massachusetts and Maine. In 1999 they sold the company, and Sandra went on to work for the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation (MHIC) as a Senior Asset Management Officer and Consultant until she retired in 2010. She relished her time reading, watching a good movie, listening to music and sharing time with her family, friends, and her Maltipoo Lucy.
She was a graduate of Lynchburg College in Virginia and attended the New School for Social Research in New York. She was a lifelong member and worker in the Lord’s vineyard through the United Church of Christ, and most recently the West Yarmouth Church of Christ, Cape Cod, MA. Sandra’s memory will be cherished by Ed’s daughter Rachel Cyrene Blackman of Rhode Island; her life family Elizabeth, (Lee), and Melvin Wesley; her Godchildren Cienna Alida Wesley of Florida and Melanece Anjelica Wesley of Maryland; cousins Beth Morrison and Rob Morrison, and a host of friends and associates.
Her home going service will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00am at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church, 383 Route 28 West Yarmouth, MA. Interment immediately following at Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation to Angel Animal Medical Center, 350 S.
