Gary E. Shepherd
May 10th, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we inform friends and family that Gary Shepherd passed away on May 10, 2023. Gary was born in Chatham-Kent, England on January 30, 1949. Along with his mother, Vera Rose, father, Buddy, and brother, Terry he settled in Massachusetts. After spending a period of time in Somerville, they ultimately settled in Framingham.
Gary attended Framingham State College where he met his life partner, best friend, and wife Mary Sullivan. Gary was very involved in student government at Framingham State. He was also a member of Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity, where he was given the nickname “Seal”
.
Mary and Gary were married at the college chapel in 1972 and began the next chapter of their lives in Ashland. Having climbed the corporate ladder with the Zayre Corporation as a vice president of imports for the company he had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Asia.
When Joshua was born in 1980 their family welcomed the joy of their life into the world.
As the world turned Gary joined his brother’s accounting firm, Shepherd and Goldstein, giving him the flexibility to be far more present in the countless activities in which Josh was involved.
The areas of life that Gary enjoyed the most were all outdoors. He had a great love and appreciation for nature, gardening, and animals. It was not uncommon for Gary to spend countless hours in the yard during the day and researching what he wanted to do next at night along with the glass or two of wine.
Gary was very proud to have gained enough professional success to afford him the opportunity to buy a vacation home on Cape Cod that has imprinted itself on his entire family.
The family is deeply saddened to have to say goodbye so soon, yet happy to know he is peacefully walking the sandy shorelines enjoying the very nature that was so near and dear to him.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Gary’s honor be made to Why Me & Sherry’s House, who provide love and support for families dealing with childhood cancer, which was founded by Gary’s brother, Terry, in the memory of his daughter, Sherry.

Mary, Josh & family, So sad to hear of Gary’s sudden passing. A few years back I remember him with dog enjoying the low tides at Mayflower. He just loved the beach. Our deepest sympathy and may Gary rest in peace.
Josh, thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Stacy Penna
Our hearts are with all of Gary's family..you are in our thoughts and prayers. A fun memory for Jim and I was when Mary and Gary visited our boat when we were docked in West Dennis. We had a wonderful time together including many laughs and "a glass or two of wine" together. Also when they attended a pool party at our home in Milford. May Gary rest in peace!
