Heidi (Sears) Schadt
Mar 5th, 2023
Heidi (Sears) Schadt, 84, formerly of East Dennis, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023 after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Heidi was born in Rhode Island, the daughter of Kathryn and Samuel P. Sears.
Raised in Chestnut Hill, she graduated from The Winsor School and later from Briarcliff College in New York. At the age of sixteen she was presented to society as a debutante.
Heidi married and lived on a working farm in Marietta, PA. In 1975 she moved with her four children to Cape Cod, returning to her childhood roots. Bringing a piece of the farm life with her, she was well known for having pigs, chickens and goats in her backyard.
Once entrenched in her life in East Dennis, she became very involved in town politics, serving on the Board of Selectmen for nineteen years as well as on numerous town committees, too many to name. Dennis and its people held a special spot in her heart. She was a proud Dennis resident.
Heidi was best known for her infectious laugh. She had a deep love not only for her immediate family but also friends and extended family, both near and far. Heidi loved hosting a dinner party and was known to “break the bank” at Christmas time, her favorite holiday. She never knew a sunburn that she wasn’t proud of, spending sunny summer days at cousin David Sears’ beach. When her beloved Patriots were playing she would ignore all phone calls and visits. Heidi will be greatly missed by the townspeople and her family. May she live her eternal life “under the tree” with a cocktail and a hearty laugh.
Heidi is survived by her children, Jennifer and her husband, James Tighe of Norwood, Daniel Jr.and his wife, Christina Schadt of Brewster, Rebecca and her husband, Scott Doncaster of Harwich and Elisabeth Civetti of South Dennis. She is also survived by her sister, Wendy Grassi and brother, Samuel P. Sears Jr. She was the proud grandmother of eleven and great grandmother of four. She was predeceased in death by her parents, half-brother, Roland Sears and half-sister, Ann Whiteman.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on March 21, 2023 from 3 – 6 P.M.
Guest Book
Becky and the rest of the Schadt family, I was so sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. She was a huge part of the Town of Dennis. It's hard to image the town without her. I no longer live in MA so I can't make it to the services, but I wanted you to know my thoughts are with you and your family. Amy
