Maureen S. Hickey, 82, of West Yarmouth and formerly of Braintree, passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, Maureen was the daughter of the late James and Augusta Splaine. She attended Blessed Sacrament School, graduating with the class of 1959.
 
Maureen was the devoted wife of 60 years to Charles F. “Mike” Hickey, mother to Jean and David Riordan of Plymouth, Michael and Kelly Hickey of Stowe, VT., and Brian and Amy Hickey of Franklin. She is survived by her nine grandchildren Amy, Patrick, and Shauna Riordan, Dakota Wright, Reilly, and Jack Hickey, Conlon, Caitlin, and Crispin Hickey. She is survived by her sisters Claire Barrett and Carole Splaine and predeceased by her sisters Joanne Sweeney, Marilyn Kilgallon, Rita McCluskey, and her brother James Splaine. Maureen is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
 
While raising her family in Braintree, Maureen took pride in working at Stop and Shop headquarters and Blue Cross Blue Shield in North Quincy. During retirement she enjoyed her work as a SHINE counselor at the Yarmouth Senior Center and as a member of the Saint  Pius X Women’s Society.
 
Maureen is best remembered as a woman of strong faith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, and large extended family.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 4-8 P.M.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA. Interment to follow at  Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth, MA

Contributions in Maureen’s memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod – Hospice, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Maureen will be missed. Spent many summer days at her home when I was kid and vacationing with the Hickeys was the best. I was always welcome to stop by or stay at her home on cape cod. Love you aunt Maureen. Tommy Kilgallon
