Helen A. Watson, 96, of YarmouthPort died peacefully surrounded by love at her daughter’s home in Brewster, MA on February 3, 2023. She was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Walter L. Meagher, Sr. and Helen (Gleason) Meagher.

After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1944 she attended Syracuse University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work. After graduation, she worked for the Onondaga County Department of Social Services placing children with their adoptive families. In 1957 she became a stay at home mother. After the untimely death of her husband in 1975, she returned to school for her master’s degree and was employed by Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital until her retirement. During this time she was also a world traveler, visiting Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Caribbean and many countries throughout Europe. Helen was also an avid golfer, gardener and bird lover. In 1999 she moved to Cape Cod to be closer to her daughter.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, Earle “Red” Watson, Jr. She leaves behind 4 children: Mary Watson of Plantersville, TX, Laura Kett and her husband Jeffrey of Brewster, MA, Andrew Watson and his wife Michele and Matthew Watson, all of Durango, CO; 5 grandchildren: Brian Kett and his wife Teresa, Tyler Kett and his wife Ashley, Meghan Watson, and Tom and Leah Watson. She was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren: Liam Kett, Molly Kett and Benjamin Kett. Helen is also survived by her brother Walter L. Meagher, Jr. and his wife Gail of Fayetteville, NY as well as many nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 10am to 11am at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster. Funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Interment next to her husband in Fayetteville, NY will take place at a later date. Please join the family in the parish hall for a luncheon following the Mass.
