Sandra (Roberts) Thornton passed away at the age of 70, on September 18, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital following a long battle with cancer. Sandy was born in Meriden, CT the daughter of Joseph and Genevieve Roberts.  She grew up in Cheshire, CT and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1974.
 
Sandy met her husband, Jeffrey B. Thornton in 1975 on Martha’s Vineyard and they moved to Cape Cod to live, eventually purchasing a home in North Harwich. After her first career as a caregiver, she went on to be employed by Elder Services for twenty five years before retiring.
 
She was happiest spending time in her garden and on the beaches of Cape Cod.  Sandy was a big fan of the Red Sox and Celtics and she loved all animals.
 
Surviving are her husband, Jeffrey Thornton of North Harwich and her sisters, Sheila Garry of Eastham and Nancy Santagotta of Meriden, CT.
 
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
 
 
 

My condolences to Jeffrey, Sheila & Nancy, I first knew Sandy when we were colleagues at Elder Services in the mid 1980s. First at an apartment office in Hyannis, when Michael Noonan was our boss, then at the main office in So. Dennis. Sandy was always an excellent casemanager who advocated well for her clients. During the 25 years I later worked for the VNA ( until 2018) our paths crossed regularly as we shared some of the same territory and clients. Sandy always maintained her sense of humor and strong bonds with her clients. I know she was sorely missed by many of them when she retired. So sorry for your loss, Cynthia Storer, Wellfleet
