Steve Anderson
Oct 10th, 2022
Steve C. Anderson passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, after a long, hard fought battle with primary sclerosing cholangitis. He was the husband of Maryellen Fanning Anderson for over 51 years.
Steve spoke often of growing up in West Yarmouth at a time of bike riding, paper routes, hitchhiking, neighborhood baseball, pick-up basketball, water skiing, sneaking on golf courses and just living a carefree childhood with a great deal of joy on Cape Cod.
Steve was a star athlete at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He played third base on the 1970 Cape League Yarmouth Red Sox team. He was the Recreation Director for the town of Sandwich for several years and coached Little League, basketball, softball, and soccer. He was a partner/coach of the Blue Knights Summer Soccer Camp for many years.
He loved every day of his teaching and coaching career at Falmouth High School. After many years of success coaching sports, he went on to coach the Falmouth High School math team with the same competitive spirit and success. He was a beloved, devoted teacher, a wonderful neighbor, friend, son, brother, husband, dad, Puppa and a kind, generous, humble man. He was a true Christian and led by example.
In addition to his wife Maryellen, Steve is survived by his daughter Jennifer Lynne Anderson and son-in-law Christopher Barton Boone of Albuquerque, NM, his son John Ryan Anderson of Brooklyn, NY, his two adored grandchildren Marguerite Anderson Boone and Nathaniel Anderson Boone of Albuquerque, NM, and his brothers, Richard and Alan, both of California. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Aino Anderson of Yarmouth, MA.

Dear Maryellen, I was so impressed with the members of your family at the celebration of Steve’s life. They are a wonderful tribute to the job that you and he did as parents. It was an event filled with humor and grace and kindness. All those qualities are in keeping with the admirable human that Steve was. He was one of the very best faculty members that I ever had the pleasure to work with. He cared about his students so fully as he taught the subject he knew so well and as he coached in a most sportsmanlike way. He was committed to kids’ well-being. He cooperated energetically for the good of the institution, even though he might not always have embraced every policy and practice. I am so sorry he has left us and very sad that he had to bear medical challenges at the end. I hope that you and your family have many opportunities to appreciate your lives together as you work to learn to live without him....a hard task, I’m sure. Fondly, Peter Clark
Maryellen and family. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Steve. He was fellow colleague in the Math department but also a great friend, who will be missed. Our daughters were very fortunate to have him as their math instructor……………………as…all his many students over the years were as well. I I’ll always remember him. My sincere condolences.Dennis Ford
