Arthur “Art” Taylor passed away unexpectedly on July 8th, 2022, at the age of 82. His multiple battles with cancer over the last 15 years showed his courage in facing life challenges. Despite the constant struggle of those battles, Art never lost his will to fight.

Born and raised in Whitensville, MA, Art was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America where he eventually earned his Eagle Scout status. He was a 1959 graduate of Northbridge High School and continued to become a graduate of Salem State College in 1963 with a degree in Physical Education and Recreation.

In 1975, Art moved to Attleboro, MA where he would remain a resident until 2004. He was a Nursing Home Administrator at many local nursing homes, until he started with Kimwell Nursing Home in Fall River, MA in 1989. Art was a beloved leader and mentor to many while working there for the next 15 years, referring to the Kimwell staff and residents as his family.

Art moved to South Yarmouth in 2004, where he enjoyed golfing and being near the ocean. He was a lover of the seas and had owned many sailboats throughout his life, most notably “Hepzibah” and “Hepzibah II”. On any given nice day, you would find him on the ocean, with the wind blowing thru his hair and a smile on his face.

Art was a devout Episcopalian and an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Attleboro, MA where he was a lay reader and organizer of the “Country Store” during the annual Christmas Fair. Once he moved, he joined St. David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth, MA where he was a Eucharistic minister delivering weekly Eucharist to the elderly and disabled, counter for the Treasurer, and was on the vestry. Through the church, he found many amazing people that became family more than friends.

Art was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Gladys (Sedgewick) Taylor, his sister Jocelyn (Taylor) Shaw, and his wife of 32 years, Wendy (Airey) Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Hercilia Oliveria Taylor, his sons Jeffrey Taylor of Montclair, NJ and Matthew Taylor (and his wife Teresa) of Glocester, RI, his stepdaughter Shanna Palmer-Correia (and her husband Brandon) of Westport, MA, a granddaughter, 4 grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 205 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA, on Friday July 22, 2022 at 11:00 am. All are welcomed to join the family after the service for stories, laughter, and friendship in the Fellowship Hall at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Art can be made to the Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, 68 Rt 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.

We were so sadden by the news of Art’s passing. We had lost contact over the years with Art but not the many memories of our families spending so much time together.

A friend for more than 50 years. When we referred to each other it was “brother,” because our friendship was that of a brother. Our final conversation was a true blessing. “It is what it is” brother. I will see you on the other side, at some point. Rest in eternal peace; you certainly deserve it.

I knew Art from being involved with him in the Cub Scout-Boy Scout organizations in Whitinsville and attending Northbridge High School with him. Although I was 2 years younger than him, his dedication and leadership qualities in the scouting experience had a positive influence upon the younger scouts. May God grant Eternal Rest to his soul and deliver comfort to his family.
