Raymond Charles Gallup
Jul 11th, 2022
Raymond Charles Gallup, 97, of East Dennis, MA passed away on July 11, 2022 at Liberty Commons in North Chatham. Born in Attleboro, MA on August 21, 1924, he was the only child of Grace (Waltman) and Harry Gallup. He was the devoted husband of Beatrice (Bienvenue) Gallup for 71 years until her passing in March 2020. He leaves four children – Karen Newman and her husband Steve of Attleboro, William Gallup and his wife Gayle of Chatham, Marsha Beaudoin and her husband Stephen of East Sandwich and Lynne Waterman of Sandwich, MA. He also leaves his dear eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Ray graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton in 1942. After completing one year at Northeastern University, he proudly served for 1-1/2 years in the U.S. Army in a medical battalion during WWII. His time spent in France and Belgium had a profound and lasting effect on him. When he returned from the war, he finished his degree and married Bea in 1948. He worked in the textile industry for various companies until starting his own business in the early 1970’s.
Ray, Bea and the family spent many happy summers at the cottage Ray and his father built in South Yarmouth in 1948. They moved permanently to East Dennis in 1983 and enjoyed traveling extensively. Ray was an avid Boston sports fan and took particular joy when the Red Sox finally won the World Series in 2004. He was known for his quick sense of humor, resilience and love of taking care of his property. Always grateful for a long and wonderful life, he gave generously to a number of charities.
Ray was a remarkable man in so many ways and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Dad always said that the one thing he wanted to be included in his obituary was that he was “one lucky guy…..until today”.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Liberty Commons, Dr. Ted Herwig and Dr. Evangelos Geraniotis and their staffs for the outstanding care they provided to Ray.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Rd. Brewster, MA. 02631 on Tuesday July 19 at 11 am. Burial will be private.
