Louis A. Boucher

Louis A. Boucher, age 89, a native of Haverhill, MA, died on June 30, 2022 at the Westview Healthcare Center in Dayville, CT.  Born on Feb. 25, 1933, the son of the late Lucien and Cecile (Boulay) Boucher, he graduated from Essex Agricultural and Technical High School, (formerly Essex Agricultural High School) in Danvers, MA.
 
He served in the United States Coast Guard from June of 1950 to April of 1957. He was stationed at Coast Guard Group Staten Island New York, serving at station Rockaway, the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, MD, Hampton Beach Life Boat Station in Hampton, NH and Coast Guard Base Boston, MA. After his Honorable Discharge from the Coast Guard in 1957 he joined the Haverhill Fire Department where he served as a firefighter, EMT and fire alarm dispatcher. His assignments over the years as a firefighter included Engine 5 on High Street, where he spent the bulk of his career, Engine 1 at Essex St., Engine 4 at Water St., fire dispatcher at fire alarm headquarters, and as an EMT out of the station at High St. During that time he was injured several times, and was credited with saving the life of a woman at one of the fires he fought. He retired from the department in 1977 after a fire related injury with 20 years of service.
 
He moved to South Yarmouth, MA in September of 1977. While living on the Cape, he drove a truck doing pickups and deliveries for the Mill Stores. After finally retiring, Louis took up playing the organ. He took lessons while wintering in Tarpon Springs Florida and became rather proficient in entertaining family and friends on the organ.
 
Louis was married to the late Claire T. (Dufault) Boucher for 43 years before her death in May of 1996.
 
He is survived by his current wife of 22 years, Elsie Larson Boucher, his son Michael Boucher and his wife Judy of Newburgh, NY, his daughter Patricia Hooper and her husband John of Hartfield, VA, his son Daniel Boucher and his wife June of Rochester, NH, his son Thomas Boucher of Walpole, MA, his daughter Susan Weaver and her husband Joseph of Derry, NH, and his son Gerald Boucher and his wife Brenda of West Yarmouth, MA.  He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
 
Family and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 10:00-12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at 1:30 P.M. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
