Mar 22nd, 2022
Katrina (Sears) Barber 87 of Benton, AR and a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM died Tuesday March 22, 2022.
A 13th generation Cape Codder, Katrina was born in East Dennis, where she helped her parents with the family farm. She then went to college with a musical scholarship and graduated with degrees in both music and law. At 19, Katrina moved from Massachusetts to California. She lived in California before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where she met her husband, Edward, at a dance. She and Edward were married for 51 years before Edward passed away.
Katrina loved her family, learning, and traveling, being one of the first to travel internationally with The Friendship Force. There are very few countries Katrina hadn’t visited and many she wanted to visit again. She was active in her church, St. John’s United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, NM and was part of their handbell choir. Katrina spent many years volunteering. She spent over 25 years volunteering as a driver for Meals on Wheels, Oasis and at the New Mexico Veterans Foundations, where there is a brick in her honor.
More than anything, Katrina loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodi Barber Donoho and her husband, Michael; a granddaughter, Katrina and her husband, Patrick; and great-grandson, Parker. Katrina was predeceased by her husband, Edward William Barber, her parents, Freeman and Mabel (Chase) Sears; and her son, Brett Edward Barber.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday April 12 in Quivet Cemetery, East Dennis.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the New Mexico Veterans Foundation, 1100 Louisiana Blvd, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. She loved her time there and would be honored by the lasting legacy.
