Auke Schat Statema
Dec 2nd, 2015
After suffering with Alzheimer’s for a number of years, Auke Schat Statema was called to her heavenly home on 2 December 2015. A Church Service in Celebration of her Life, will be held at 11AM, on Saturday, December 5th, at Grace Church in East Dennis, Massachusetts.
An immigrant from The Netherlands, Auke loved this country, and she forever appreciated the American troops who liberated her native Holland.
Auke loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and she sought to live out her faith in her daily life. True to her Dutch heritage she had strength of character, determination, was hard-working, generous, and warm-hearted. She loved adventure, loved the tranquility and beauty in nature, art and music, and loved to create beauty with her talents of decorating, needlework, and painting. Most of all, she longed to create a warm and loving home for her husband of 57 years, her daughters, and many friends. Succeed she did … everyone was always heartily welcome and well fed! Many will remember Auke for her gift of hospitality and of taking care of those who were sick, shut in, or alone. She was famous for her soups that brought comfort, nourishment, and cheer.
We will greatly miss her zest for life, her love, her warmth, wit, and wisdom; but she has left us a legacy to cherish and follow, and we look forward to the day when the Lord calls us home and she is there with Him to welcome us to heaven. I Thessalonians 4:13-18.
Her family is so thankful that they were able to care for her at home, and are grateful to the doctors, nurses, and health aides of Hope Housecalls and Hope Hospice for helping them make this possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Auke’s memory to: Rockbridge Academy, (Tuition Assistance) 911 Generals Highway, Millersville, MD 21108 or Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601

My mom informed me that Mrs. Statema has passed into Jesus' safe and loving arms. I have such fond memories of her generous and friendly personality, of times with Astrid, and we still have the tablecloth she embroidered for us for a wedding gift. You are a wonderful family. I will be praying for you as you miss your wife/mother this holiday season.
We are both saddened by the loss. I remember the time that Oma and Opa surprised me while I was attending The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I got a message in class that there were people to see me..no clue...and was happily surprised it was them in their RV passing through! Very thoughtful and caring woman (and Opa as well). You are in a better place.
