Margaret "Peg" Raymond
Feb 13th, 2022
Margaret “Peg” M. Raymond , a gentle soul, passed away on February 13, 2022 at the age of 96. She was born in New Bedford on July 25, 1925, the daughter of Francis L. and Edith E. (Sears) Monahan. After growing up in Wareham and contemplating nursing school she attended Bridgewater State Teachers College followed by 27 years of teaching in the Dennis school system at the Ezra H. Baker and the Nathaniel T. Wixon Schools.
Always active, Margaret enjoyed the YMCA, traveling, and was always up for an adventure. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and was very devoted to her faith, including her long time membership in the Lay Franciscan Fraternity of Peace.
An avid reader, Margaret particularly enjoyed mysteries and books on home décor. She loved her ice cream (especially Wendy’s frosties), a glass of wine, Italian food and peanut butter. At the age of 91, she discovered pepperoni and looked forward to a slice of pizza nearly every day. She loved animals and was a big fan of Dr. Pol.
Margaret was an amazingly kind, gentle, and generous soul with a delightfully quirky sense of humor, providing joy to all. Her favorite phrases were: “Are you hungry?, Can I help you?, and You look so nice”. She was often asked to make her amazingly delicious wine cake. was infinitely grateful, expressing numerous “thank you’s” throughout each day and even while talking in her sleep.
She is survived by her two daughters: Cheryll Childs of Wareham and Patricia Raymond of Yarmouth. In addition she is survived by cousins: Christine Sears Carter of Ft. Myers, FL and Ron Sears and his wife, Susan of Cotuit. Beloved by all who knew her, she acquired several “adopted daughters”: Jody Herman, Kathy Tomkiewicz, Linda Roderick, Dianne Desruisseaux and Dorothy Repoza, to name but a few.
Her daughters are extremely appreciative of the excellent compassionate care provided by health professionals, hospice and incredibly supportive friends. God bless you all.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Saturday, February 26 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth

To Cheryl and Pat my heartfelt condolences and prayers are with you. Peg was such a kind hearted person especially when we were young kids taking Mary and me to church on Sundays. Peg was always joyful and had great faith in our lord. I know the lord will extend his right hand and lead Peg on her final journey to heaven with ease. P.S. I was one who really loved Peg’s wine cake! Mark D Gonsalves
