Elinor E. Slade

Elinor E. Slade 85, of West Dennis, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 8, with her loving family by her side.
Born at Cape Cod Hospital in 1929, she was the daughter of Clifton and Laura Stever of Osterville, MA. In 1947 Elinor graduated from Barnstable High School, then earned a Commercial Science Degree from Boston University. She lived 10 years in South Yarmouth as a child, and was a 56 year resident of West Dennis.
Elinor served as Dennis Town Treasurer from 1976- 1997 and as Dennis Town Clerk from 1976 to 2000. Subsequently she served on the Finance Committee and on several town committees. She was an elected member of the Dennis Republican Town Committee from 1964 until recently. Early on she was active in Boy Scouts as a Den Mother and Girl Scouts as Troop Leader. She served on the Cape Cod & Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America Executive Board and was an integral fundraiser for them. For years she was village or town chairman of the Barnstable County Board of March of Dimes and American Heart Association. She served as a Member of the Board to the Dennis Chamber of Commerce and the Governor’s Advisory Council for the Elderly. She was a trustee of the Dennis Free Public Library; appointed member of the Caleb Chase Fund; served on the 1869 West Dennis School House Committee and Henry Boles Scholarship Committee. Elinor was a Justice of the Peace and united many couples.
Elinor had a lifelong passion for music and played trumpet throughout high school and college where she was a member of the marching band and orchestra. She enjoyed opera and classical music. Special joy in her life came from her children and grandchildren. She was adored by her family and was a doting grandmother. Her other interests included reading, traveling, stamp collecting, playing cards, and jeopardy.
Elinor was the former wife of the late Attorney Elliott K. Slade, Jr. She is survived by her son, Elliott Slade III and his wife, Donna, of New York City and Aspen, CO; her son, Col. Clifton Slade, M.D. and his wife, Chong Son, of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter, Kimberley Slade of Halfmoon, NY; her daughter, Pamela Kelly and her husband, Dr. Brian Kelly, of Wrentham, MA; her sister, Carol Stever of West Dennis; grandchildren, Laura, Shannon, and Kimball Slade of New York City, Victoria and Alexandra Slade of Brooklyn, NY, Brian and Daniel Kelly of Wrentham, MA; sister-in-law, Norma Robbins; niece, Marion Reed, and her husband, Graham; grandnephew, Colin Reed; grandniece, Carolyn Reed; and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis Fire Association, Cape Cod & Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America or West Dennis Library.
A memorial service will be held at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 1:00 P.M.
