George Tyner left this life on January 17, 2022.  Below is his contribution to the Irish funny pages.
George was born on August 16, 1938 to George Sr. and Blanche Tyner.  Like many of the Boston Irish, he was raised in a triple-decker in Roslindale.  George graduated Roslindale High School in 1956 and after serving in the Army, received his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Suffolk University.

In high school, George was a member of the Sir Galahad chapter of Demolay.  For the members, the major social events were the combined Demolay & Rainbow Girl dances.  While showing off his smooth moves at one such dance, he met the love of his life, Claire Taber.   After seven years of courtship, they tied the knot in 1963 and took the leap to leave the confines of Boston venturing out to the country where they chose to settle in Walpole, MA. It was there that they raised their two sons, Tripp and Stephen.

George loved Walpole and gave back to the community.  He was a Town Meeting Member, and an elected official of the Walpole Housing Authority where he led projects to build housing for both families and the elderly.  He was an active member of Epiphany Episcopal Church, The Shriners and The Azure Masonic Lodge.

George also loved local politics, he embraced Tip O’Neil’s quote of “All politics is local” and was involved in many local campaigns.
George took up running in his 40s and made that a daily part of his routine for years.   He ran many road races, his favorite being the Falmouth Road Race.

George took his family to Dennisport and West Dennis every summer.  He loved the Cape and achieved his dream of owning a cottage there in 1980.   After retiring from Polaroid, George and Claire moved to Dennis permanently.
In retirement, George continued his community-based volunteerism.  He donated his time to the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, St. David’s Episcopal Church, Direct Federal Credit Union and LIFE (Living Independently For Ever). He was a member of Mt. Horeb Lodge in South Dennis.

George’s greatest love and source of pride was his family.   They were his number one priority. He never missed a track meet, soccer game, swim meet, scout meeting, theatre production or band concert.  He wasn’t shy about bragging about his sons and their accomplishments.  His happiest moments were spending time with his family skiing, skating, swimming, partying, and watching the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

George is survived by his “lovely bride”, Claire (Taber), his sons Tripp and Stephen and their wives Christa and Ann.  He is also the loving grandfather of Cate, Alex and Coleman.   He is predeceased by his parents, George and Blanche (Watts) and his Aunt Martha.  George, also had an extensive extended family whom he loved and cherished.

George loved a party.   He and Claire hosted many.   George’s drink of choice was a Beefeater Martini, so if you are so inclined raise one in his honor.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. in St. David's Episcopal Church, Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Cape Abilities (www.capeabilities.org) or better yet, emulate George’s commitment to service and volunteerism and get involved in a local charity or service organization in your community.
So mote it be.

Dear Claire, Tripp and family and Steven and family--I was so sorry to learn of George's passing. I've known him practically my entire life, as we grew up in Church of Our Saviour in Roslindale. One of my great memories is his being an usher in David's and my wedding in 1980. Also when George played Ed Norton in the Honeymooners skit in one of our ecumenical shows with St. Mary's Church and Epiphany Parish in 1979, The skit was a hoot as was George--the perfect Ed Norton. May we all have such wonderful memories of a nice man who has been a part of our lives forever. My sincerest sympathy to all of you and my love to you also. May you all find peace in knowing he is in a better place. His obituary certainly describes him--well done.
