Betty M. Colgan

Betty Marie (Corrigan) Colgan passed away Sunday November 7, 2021 after a period of declining health. She was born in Condon, OR, she was the youngest child of the late Patrick J. and Bridget “Bessie"(Corcoran) Corrigan.
In 1937 her family moved to Providence, RI to be closer to relatives, but Condon always held a place in her heart. She attended St. Mary's Academy of the Visitation in Providence, graduating in 1944. She became a teacher after receiving her degree from Rhode Island College of Education in 1948. Betty taught in the Oakland Beach section of Warwick, RI until her marriage to Joseph E. Colgan in 1956. In 1966 Joe became the service representative to Cape Cod for Pitney-Bowes and he and Betty moved their family to South Yarmouth. It was here that Betty started teaching CCD at St. Pius X Church, eventually becoming the Religious Education Co-Ordinator for grades 6-9. She earned a Master degree in Religious Education in 1982. In her retirement she was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and worked on the parish newsletter.
She loved her Irish heritage, a good book, and a good Manhattan.
She is survived by her children Mary E., Robert J. of. S, Yarmouth, Katherine A. of Cotuit, Kevin F. of Naples FL, Margaret Card (Ron) of Coventry RI, and John E. (Susan) of W. Yarmouth. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joe, Jaclyn, Samantha, and Nate. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, son James P, and her siblings Margaret Fawcett and John Corrigan.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, November 15, 2021 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave, South Yarmouth. Interment will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association or St Pius X. Religious Education.
