Jeri (Eisenberg) Shuman
Oct 25th, 2021
Jeri (Eisenberg) Shuman 79 of Dennis passed away gently and peacefully of heart failure Monday October 25, 2021. Her beloved daughter Abby and adored son-in-law Dean were by her side.
Jeri is survived by her daughter, Dr. Abby Shuman and her husband, Dean Eaton of Cambridge; and the entire Shuman family; her treasured cousins, Cliff and Carole Fishman of Rumson, NJ and their children, Peter and Casey, and the extended Fishman family; her family in Toulon, France, where her mother was born and raised; her many friends from Northside Village in Dennis; her friends from the AA community; and the friends she made in every library and cinema she went to. Jeri was predeceased by her precious son, Andy Shuman (1970-88).
Born in New York, NY, Jeri was the daughter of the late James and Solange (Jacquemond) Eisenberg. She attended Elmira College in Elmira, NY and received her teaching degree from the Boston University School of Education. She taught French for many years and moved from New York City to Cape Cod after visiting with friends in 1982. She decided that the beaches, sunsets and people of the Cape were meant to be her home.
Jeri was an avid lover of the Romance languages and reading where she could often be found tucked into a book in her favorite chair in the Northside Village lobby or patio, or in any one of the libraries at which she’d volunteered and/or simply loved. She loved the Cape Cinema, the Impressionist painters and the Grateful Dead, by her son’s initiation.
A very kind and generous person, Jeri was humble and always had a twinkle of mischief in her eye. She will be missed by many, including, last but not least, ,her grand dogs, Ione and Levon, who will be awaiting their squeaky mallard toys when they see her again in the big dog park/beach in the sky.
Visiting hours will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday November 8 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.
Interment will be private and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Jacob Sears Memorial Library, P.O. Box 782, East Dennis, MA 02641 or to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, 3981 Main St. Brewster, MA 02631.
