DENNIS PORT - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Neal Maguire of Dennisport. Neal was the loving son of the late Jean and Harry Maguire. He is survived by two daughters, Hannah Maguire and Becky Maguire D’Antoni and her husband, Erik; two sisters, Eileen Maguire Martins and her husband, Joe and Patty Maguire Ayer and her husband, David; one grandson, Leo D’Antoni; a step daughter, Megan Carroll; three nephews, Brendan Baker, Ryan Baker, and Kevin Martins; a niece, Molly Martins; and many cousins, whom he loved.
Neal grew up in Weymouth and attended Weymouth North High School, class of 1975. He had an incredible sense of humor and a quick wit having grown up in the house of comedy with Jean and Harry. One night out to dinner with the family, he went to the men’s room. After a while he came back to the table rather flustered. Neal said he saw a sign in the bathroom that said “Employees must wash hands” he said “I waited a while but not one employee came in to wash my Hands!”
He followed The Grateful Dead and attended concerts that are too many to count. He was a proud army veteran stationed in Korea. He moved to the Cape after his term in the Army.
He worked at the old 400 Club for over 10 years. Patrons there enjoyed his sense of humor and loved his one liners.
Neal had an interest in nursing school which at the time had a long waiting list at CCCC. He got into the program and was educated in the healthcare field. Working at the Psych Center was a big part of his life. The need is so great on Cape Cod. He was an avid reader and an active supporter of local libraries.
As a child he loved GI Joe, and matchbox cars. He hated when his sister, Patty made his GI Joe be Barbie’s husband while she played Barbie dolls!
He loved the little cottage in Salt Air Village in Dennis Port in the Snatch Alley area of Dennis Port, where the family summered growing up.
Neal was so proud of his girls, they were his everything. What gave him the greatest joy was the birth of his grandson, Leo, and his whole face lit up when he spoke of him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday October 29 in Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St., West Harwich.
Interment will be private.
