Noel M. (Tremblay) Colombo
Oct 3rd, 2021
Noel Marianne (Tremblay) Colombo 90 of West Yarmouth died Sunday October 3, 2021 at Maplewood at Mayflower Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Yarmouth, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, which she faced with strength and grace.
She was the loving wife of the late Louis Colombo who died in 2012.
Born on Christmas Day, raised and educated on the family farm in Attleboro, Noel was the daughter of the late Alcime and Marion (Audette) Tremblay.
Noel graduated from Attleboro High School and went on to secretarial school in Boston.
She met her future husband Louis Bernard Colombo, a jazz trumpeter and professional baseball player and they married 1952. The two set up home first in Brockton and then in North Attleboro, West Bridgewater, and finally settling in South Yarmouth in1969.
Noel’s working career included acting secretary to Massachusetts Congressman Hastings Keith, managing the Bass River Golf Course restaurant and as a real estate broker in Chatham.
Noel and Lou enjoyed winters at their homes in Florida where family visits were frequent. She spent a life of service to many organizations including the Jimmy Fund, March of Dimes, the Heart Fund and she was an activist for human rights, co-founding a civil rights group in West Bridgewater in 1966.
Noel was known for her excellent cooking skills, especially her Italian dishes, which she had to learn from her mother-in-law to keep Lou happily fed. She loved jazz and classical music, flowers, especially her peonies, dancing, a glass of fine wine and a good crossword puzzle.
Her family was always foremost in her heart. Noel was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to be in her orbit and experience her kind, loving heart. Her family’s spirits are lifted by the thought of Lou and Noel being reunited once again with Lou playing their favorite song to her, “My Funny Valentine”.
Noel is survived by six children, Lou Anne Colombo of Brewster, Lori Colombo of South Yarmouth, David Colombo of Sandwich, Lynda Colombo and partner, Mark Sullivan of Del Ray Beach, FL, Thomas and Leanne Colombo of Sandwich, and Sherri Neeley and her husband, Marc of Fort Myers, FL; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Kiley, Casey, Ryan, Tommy, Emma, Tanner, Alex and Caitlin; two great grandchildren, Caela and Christopher; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Small and her husband, Larry of Bridgewater. The Colombo home was always open to friends and children. Steve Ross and Debbie Rice became an important part of their family over the years. In addition to her husband and parents, Noel was predeceased by her siblings Raymond, Norman, Gerald, Donald, Joseph, Lillian, Oscar and Claire, and many dear friends and family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Tuesday November 2 in St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis.
Interment will be private.
The Colombo Family wishes to thank the caring nurses and support staff at Mayflower Place Nursing Center in West Yarmouth who treated Noel with kindness and dignity during the last five years, the support of VNA Hospice in her final days, as well as Hallett Funeral Home for their guidance.
