William Lovett Gamble of Cummaquid, MA  passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021 at the age of 88 after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Mt. Kisco, NY, the son of Jefferson Shaner Gamble and Marion Lovett Gamble. He grew up in Bristol, CT and lived in Unionville, Burlington and Avon, CT before moving to Cummaquid, MA in 2001.  Bill attended the Loomis Chaffee School in CT where he was a three- season athlete and Colgate University in NY before graduating with a B.S. in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design in RI.

 

 With his business partners, he founded an Industrial Design firm in 1961 which later transitioned to a graphic design firm, Gamble and Bradshaw Design in Farmington, CT. His firm was known for award-winning and state-of-the-art designs including parts of the space suits worn by astronauts who landed on the moon; packaging and product designs for Spaulding, still in existence today; hardware and tool design for Stanley Black and Decker as well as hundreds of other innovative designs.

 

  Bill will be forever missed by his wife, Elizabeth Richardson Gamble, his four daughters, Jaye Donaldson (John), Dana Rebhun (Christian), Kate Lassiter (Michael), Amy Best (Michael) and his three stepsons, Michael Richardson (Kerry), Todd Richardson (Pam), and Steven Richardson (Bradley). His many grandchildren, Elizabeth (Taylor), Halle, Tory, Keeler, Cooper, Schuyler (Abbey), Hunter, Isabelle, Oliver, Zachary, Sierra, Eli and Mae will long feel the deep loss of their dear “BeeGee”. He was the great-grandfather of Roan and Lydia.  Bill also leaves his nieces, Gaye and Leslie, his nephew, Todd, brother-in law, Jon, and sister-in law, Gillian.  He is predeceased by his first wife, Jennifer Hall Gamble, the mother of his four daughters, his sister, Elizabeth Gamble Rowe and her husband, Thomas, and his grandson, Blaise Gamble Howe.

 

 Bill loved life and lived it to the fullest.  He was an avid fly-fisherman (catch and release) spending many hours, starting as a young boy, fishing the Farmington River,  the Miramichi River and Barnstable Bay. Bill enjoyed kayaking, was an enthusiastic golfer and scored a hole-in-one. He played paddle tennis in CT and skied the mountains of NH and VT where he built a ski chalet for his family and friends. Bill and his wife were fortunate to be able to travel, taking exciting adventure trips to Africa, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the Galapagos and many countries in Europe. At home he enjoyed local theater, musical events, and sharing the home that he loved with friends and family. Bill was a happy person with a great sense of humor, always with a smile and an impish twinkle in his eye. He also was a sensitive, caring, giving and thoughtful man.  He had an easy way of reaching out and relating to people, creating, meaningful and lasting friendships.  We have been blessed to have Bill in our lives as a husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend.  He will be greatly missed and always loved.
 

 Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration of Bill's life at The Unitarian Church of Barnstable, Route 6A, Barnstable, MA on October 9, 2021 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Alzheimer's Research, St Jude Children's Research Hospital or UConn Children's Cancer Fund.

We read Bill's obit. in the Hartford Courant and it brought back so many long ago memories...where does the time go? It was a moving and well written piece about Bill and his accomplishments and you both must have had such a busy life with the 7 kids and grands, plus. We, too, have had some interesting travels ...in the past..and they all memorable. Tren is currently at our daughter, Sara's, house in Avon recovering from a time in the hospital in June, then a rehab hospital here in Guilford recovering from falls and low bp due to his Parkinson's disease. Sara has hired full time help as we await our early Oct. move to Evergreen Woods, a long term care place nearby here. I'm sorry we have lost touch and hope you have kids and support nearby as you all grieve Bill's death. Thinking of you, Carol
