Dorothy “Dot” (Larson) Fitzgibbons, age 90, of Kittery, ME passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024 with her daughters by her side at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, NH.

Born February 22, 1934, to Arnold and Dominica (Urbanowski) Larson and was raised in Suffield, CT. Dot graduated from Bay Path Jr. College in 1953 and married Edward Fitzgibbons in 1954. Dot and Ed established their home and raised their family in Whitman, MA. In 1975 she was elected as the first woman selectman in the Town of Whitman. She worked for a local printer, participated in many local and statewide political campaigns, and finished her career as a research analyst at the Massachusetts State House. In 1997 they retired to Cape Cod. After her husband’s death in 2013, Dot moved to Kittery, ME in 2016 where she resided until October 2024.

She is predeceased by her husband, Edward, of 59 years, and is survived by her three daughters: Susan Nelson of South Dennis, MA and her husband Douglas; Donna Woods of Kittery Point, ME and her husband Gary; Jane Hanrahan of Thompson, CT and her husband Joseph. In addition, she is predeceased by her sister Helen Tino. She will be missed by her 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dot’s interests included politics, reading and crafts.

Dot will be remembered at a private graveside service for family at Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth, MA.

Just the other day I was thinking of Mrs. Fitzgibbons, and was so sad to hear she had passed away. I have so many wonderful memories of her from my childhood, when Jane and I spent most of our free time together. Sending peace and love during this difficult time.
